Winter 1992 page 15 CPT 1993 Code Update: Percutaneous Transluminal Coronary Atherectomy In 1993, new codes have been added to CPT to describe a new method of treating coronary artery disease. Codes 92995 and 92996 are used to identify coronary atherectomy performed on single or multiple coronary arteries. The following information describes the atherectomy procedure and its difference from routine balloon angioplasty. The term "coronary atherectomy" means removal of an obstructing plaque (or blockage) from a coronary artery.
