October 2002 pages 8-10 Coding Communication:Keratoplasty Refractive errors of the eye may be corrected using nonsurgical methods (eg, spectacles, contact lenses), or through the use of surgical corrective techniques. In some cases, surgical correction of refractive errors may be performed solely for cosmetic or convenience reasons. In others, surgery may be the best choice for patients who are unable to tolerate contact lenses or who experience visual distortions due to nonsurgical correction extreme refractive errors.
