State and federal health officials would love to know what works best in Medicaid and SCHIP financing and service delivery. And with 50 states and the District of Columbia implementing all sorts of variations on these programs, there's a vast natural laboratory in which to experiment. Unfortunately, however, states don't all report the same data, making state-to-state comparisons challenging at best.
To help rectify the problem, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services May 2 proposed a new survey of states' performance measurement reporting capability.
