Q: We had a patient come to our podiatry clinic to get a physical for her feet to qualify for ROTC activities. They came back clear of any deformities, defects, etc. Our scribes listed this visit diagnosis as Z00.00 (Encounter for general adult medical examination without abnormal findings) which seems correct to me. Has anyone had to code something similar and can tell me what they've found successful?
A: Consider using Z02.3, Encounter for examination for recruitment to armed forces, This code is specifically for the armed forces. Z-Codes represent a reason for the encounter and must be billed with a procedure code for the exam. Z00.00 is used for a general adult medical exam.
