Hyperparathyroidism
International Classification of Diseases for Mortality and Morbidity Statistics, 11th Revision, v2024-01
Hyperparathyroidism refers to overproduction of parathormone and is most frequently due to a tumour in one of the parathyroid glands. It may also occur in response to low calcium levels, as encountered in various situations such as vitamin D deficiency or chronic kidney disease. Hyperparathyroidism results in weakening of the bones through loss of calcium.
