nameT-cell receptor excision circle [#/volume] in DBS by NAA with probe detection
descriptionIn newborn screening laboratories where dried blood spots (DBS) are the only available specimens, the test for T cell receptor excision circles (TREC) has been established as a reliable method in population-based pilot studies. TRECs are circular episomal DNA generated at the rearrangement of T cell antigen-receptor gene segments during maturation of T lymphocytes in the thymus. They are non-replicating byproducts that stay in the recent thymic emigrants in the peripheral blood. As such, they can serve as sensitive markers of T cell production in the newborn infant.

Fully-Specified Name

componentT-cell receptor excision circle
propertyNCnc  =  Number Concentration (count/vol)
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemBld.dot  =  Blood filter paper
scaleQn  =  Quantitative:  The result of the test is a numeric value that relates to a continuous numeric scale. Reported either as an integer, a ratio, a real number, or a range. The test result value may optionally contain a relational operator from the set {<=, <, >, >=}. Valid values for a quantitative test are of the form "7", "-7", "7.4", "-7.4", "7.8912", "0.125", "<10", "<10.15", ">12000", 1-10, 1:256
