| description | Identification of 12 Gram-positive bacterial targets and three genetic markers of antibiotic resistance directly from positive blood cultures. Magnetic beads are used to capture nucleic acids followed by oligonucleotide probe detection of sequence of interest. Direct detection (non-PCR) based methods do not involve DNA amplification and therefore avoid amplications of contaminants. This panel was created for, but not limited in use to, Nanosphere's Verigene Gram-Positive Blood Culture test (BC-GP), which uses microarray analysis with probe to identify gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus spp., S. aureus, S. epidermidis, S. lugdudensis, Streptococcus spp., S. pyogenes, S. agalactiae, S. anginosus group, S. pneumoniae, E. faecalis, E. faecium, and Listeria spp. as well as the mecA, vanA, and vanB genes. | ||

| status reason | Duplicate - The "Probe.mag capture" Method has been deprecated and replaced with the more general "Probe" Method since the "mag capture" portion represents how the nucleic acids are isolated, which is not a distinction made in the LOINC Method for molecular tests. Given that updating the Method would change the meaning of the term, a new term was created to replace the existing term as recommended by the Special Topics workgroup on PCR-based Methods and approved by the LOINC Lab Committee at the June 2017 meeting. | ||
