LOINC code78892-7
nameSilver [Moles/mass] in Tissue
descriptionNormally concentrations of silver in human tissues are low. Overexposure can cause silver to accumulate in the skin, liver, kidneys, corneas, gingiva, mucous membranes, nails and spleen. The adverse effects of chronic exposure to silver are a permanent bluish-gray discoloration of the skin (argyria) or eyes (argyrosis). Besides argyria and argyrosis, exposure to soluble silver compounds may produce other toxic effects, including liver and kidney damage, irritation of the eyes, skin, respiratory, and intestinal tract, and changes in blood cells.[PMID: 15964881]
