nameHerpes simplex virus 2 genome glycoprotein B 3' end region+thymidine kinase region C [Presence] in Anogenital specimen by NAA with probe detection
descriptionThis assay detects herpes simplex virus (HSV) 2 using two different probes, one for genome glycoprotein B 3' end region and one for thymidine kinase region C. If either of the probes produces a sufficient signal the result is considered positive. This term was created for, but is not limited in use to, the Roche cobas® HSV 1 and 2 Test, which is intended for use as an aid in diagnosis of anogenital HSV-1 and HSV-2 infections in symptomatic patients. The cobas HSV 1 and 2 Test is not FDA cleared for use with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and is not intended to be used for prenatal screening or for individuals under the age of 18 years.

Fully-Specified Name

componentHerpes simplex virus 2 genome glycoprotein B 3' end region+thymidine kinase region C
    B  =  Buccal
propertyPrThr  =  Present or threshold:  The Property PrThr stands for “Presence or Threshold”, meaning either a) the actual presence or absence of an analyte, or b) that the amount of analyte detected is over some predetermined threshold.
timePt  =  Point in time:  To identify measures at a point in time. This is a synonym for “spot” or “random” as applied to urine measurements.
systemAnogenital
scaleOrd  =  Ordinal:  Ordered categorical responses, e.g., 1+, 2+, 3+; positive, negative; reactive, indeterminate, nonreactive.

Associated Observations

LOINC codes that represent optional associated observation(s) for a clinical observation or laboratory test. A LOINC term may represent a single associated observation or panel containing several associated observations.

last change typeMIN  - change to field other than name
change reasonThe PrThr property is used for LOINC terms whose results are reported using an ordered categorical scale, regardless of whether or not an internal threshold was used to make that determination. This change was approved by the Laboratory LOINC Committee in June 2016.
