IgA, IgA1 and IgA2 panel - Serum or Plasma   87552-6

LOINC Code

LOINC code87552-6
nameIgA, IgA1 and IgA2 panel - Serum or Plasma
descriptionThis panel contains quantitative results for IgA and IgA subclasses 1 and 2 in serum. IgA1 is the dominant subclass, accounting for over 80% of total serum IgA. IgA2 is more concentrated in secretions and thought to be more functionally active than IgA1. IgA testing may be performed for the diagnosis of abnormal protein metabolism, to determine the cause of an immune deficiency due to an IgA deficiency, or to determine the cause of an anaphylactic transfusion reaction. Such patients are found to have no detectable levels of IgA or complete deficiency of one of the IgA subclasses. A deficiency in one IgA subclass may result in a corresponding increase in the other IgA subclass. When very high levels of either IgA subclass are reported, IgA myeloma is suspected.

scaleQn  =  Quantitative:  The result of the test is a numeric value that relates to a continuous numeric scale. Reported either as an integer, a ratio, a real number, or a range. The test result value may optionally contain a relational operator from the set {<=, <, >, >=}. Valid values for a quantitative test are of the form "7", "-7", "7.4", "-7.4", "7.8912", "0.125", "<10", "<10.15", ">12000", 1-10, 1:256
