name | Repetitive motor nerve stimulation panel Nerve
description | This panel contains the collection of terms that would be used to report the results of a repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) study. The panel should be repeated for each nerve and muscle studied. RNS is used to evaluate neuromuscular transmission and is used to help diagnose conditions such as myasthenia gravis. Whereas in a typical motor nerve conduction study a single nerve stimulus is applied and the muscle response is recorded, in RNS, the nerve is stimulated multiple times and the corresponding muscle responses are measured along with the change in response over time. In patients without neuromuscular disease, the muscle response stays constant with repeated stimulation as well as with exercise. In patients with disease, there is typically a significant decrease in muscle response with repeated stimulation. [PMID: 15961865]
