Quality Payment Program (QPP)

In 2017, the PQRS Program was replaced with the Quality Payment Program (QPP) with the purpose of rewarding providers for delivering high quality care by moving away from fee-for service payment models to pay-for-performance models that are intended to reward more efficient and effective clinicians and limit the potential billing abuses inherent in a fee-for-service setting.

For clinicians that are required to participate in QPP, there are two participation pathways to compliance:

• Merit-Based Incentive Payment System (MIPS)
• Advanced Alternative Payment Model (APM)
