Patients at our facility present for brain procedures with intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (IMRI). Sometimes the procedures performed are not considered “open” procedures. However, the CPT codes for intraoperative MRI (CPT codes 70557-70559) specifically state that the imaging is performed during an “open intracranial procedure.” When a closed procedure is performed utilizing IMRI, how should the intraoperative imaging be reported? ...
