Bronchoscopy with multiple transbronchial aspiration biopsy
The documentation in the health care record supports the coding of CPT code 31629, Bronchoscopy, rigid or flexible, including fluoroscopic guidance, when performed; with transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy(s), trachea, main stem and/or lobar bronchus(i), and CPT code 31633 for the additional lymph node biopsy in a different lobe.
However, we are unsure if we can report CPT code 31633 more than once for the additional third lymph node in a different lobe.
Can CPT codes 31633, Bronchoscopy, rigid or flexible, including fluoroscopic guidance, when performed; with transbronchial needle aspiration biopsy(s) each additional lobe, be coded twice for the second and third lymph node biopsies in separate lobes? Or do CPT coding instructions imply only once per encounter?
