Clarification: vNOTES hysterectomy

Coding Clinic for HCPCS, Third Quarter 2021, page 10, advised to report CPT codes in range 58260-58294 for vaginal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery hysterectomies (vNOTES). We believe Coding Clinic’s rationale, “Although a laparoscopic device was utilized, the hysterectomy was still performed vaginally,” supports laparoscopic vaginal hysterectomy CPT codes in range 58550-58554. We are asking Coding Clinic for HCPCS to revisit this advice and consider codes for laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomies (range 58550-58554) instead of codes via a vaginal approach (range 58260-58294) for vNOTES hysterectomies. ...
