Coding Clinic for HCPCS Third Quarter 2023 advised assigning HCPCS Level II code J2001, Injection, lidocaine HCI for intravenous infusion, 10 mg, for the lidocaine along with CPT codes 20552, Injection(s);single or multiple trigger point(s), 1 or 2 muscle(s) and 76942, Ultrasonic guidance for needle placement (e.g., biopsy, aspiration, injection, localization device), imaging supervision and interpretation, for the scalene muscle injection and the ultrasound guidance. We are asking Coding Clinic for HCPCS to revisit this advice as code J2001 is for an injection for intravenous infusion. Also, as of October 1, 2024, HCPCS code J2001 has been deleted.How should the facility report the lidocaine that was used during the trigger point injection? ...
