A patient is seen at our facility for an excisional debridement of severe gouty tophi of the left index and long finger of the proximal interphalangeal and distal interphalangeal joints. Our coders were instructed to code this procedure to an excision of tumor. However, some of the coders feel this procedure should be coded to an excision of lesion.  Would the excisional debridement of the gouty tophi be coded to excision of lesion or excision of tumor? ...
