At our facility physical therapy is performed for patients with musculoskeletal soft tissue injuries or for patients following surgery utilizing the Game ReadyTM system. This system controls the temperature and the amount of pressure applied to the affected area(s). Patients recovering from orthopedic surgeries or soft tissue injuries usually follow the RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) treatment method. However, the Game ReadyTM system utilizes only two of the components from the RICE treatment method (i.e. cryotherapy and applied pressure), which is also described as vasopneumatic cryotherapy. We were advised to report CPT code 97016 , Application of a modality to 1 or more areas; vasopneumatic devices, for this specific treatment technique.
