New CPT code for third dose of the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine

The American Medical Association (AMA) announced the release of a new CPT code on January 12, 2022, with an effective date of January 3, 2022, for the administration of the third dose of the pediatric COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer. The new code is the result of the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) extension of the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) to include the third dose for certain immunocompromised children ages 5-11.
