New HCPCS Codes forWarfarin Testing and HIV Screening Tests
A new Level II HCPCS code was recently created by CMS to capture pharmacogenomic testing for warfarin responsiveness. For additional information regarding the warfarin testing, go to: http://www.cms.hhs.gov/Transmittals/ downloads/R111NCD.pdf and http://www.cms.hhs.gov/Transmittals/ downloads/R1880CP.pdf. CMS has determined that screening for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infection is reasonable and necessary for early detection of HIV. Therefore, three (3) new Level II HCPCS G-codes were created to capture the screening tests performed for detection of HIV.
