New HCPCS Level II code for remdesivir antiviral medication
Effective December 23, 2021 the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) created HCPCS code J0248 for VEKLURY™ (remdesivir) antiviral medication to be reported when administered in an outpatient setting. This code was created based upon a statement from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) COVID-19 treatment guidelines panel regarding therapies for the COVID-19 Omicron variant. In the NIH statement, the panel issued interim recommendations for the use of anti-SARS-CoV-2 mAbs and remdesivir in nonhospitalized patients with COVID-19.
