A new code, U0005 , for high throughput technology identification of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) (coronavirus disease [COVID-19], was added to the national HCPCS file with an effective date of January 1, 2021. This new code is an addition to the previously established codes, U0003 and U0004 that capture clinical diagnostic laboratory tests (CDLTs) for the COVID-19 virus that utilize high throughput technologies.
