In a move to reform and strengthen the Health Care Financing Administration (HCFA) operations, Secretary Thompson unveiled the new name for HCFA as the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). HCFA’s Common Procedure Coding System acronym (HCPCS) has also undergone a name change. It is now known as the Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS).
