Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome
Adult respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a descriptive term that applies to an acute clinical-pathological state characterized by diffuse infiltrative lung lesions, severe dyspnea, and hypoxemia (deficient oxygenation of blood) occurring in certain clinical situations. Another description of ARDS is respiratory failure due to shock and trauma occurring in the presence of previously normal lungs.
