Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABA) is a form of aspergillosis occurring as an eosinophilic pneumonia caused by an allergic reaction to the aspergillus fungus. Aspergillus is commonly found growing on dead leaves, stored grain, bird droppings, compost stacks or other decaying vegetation. Aspergillus commonly causes pulmonary illness in 3 different ways: As an allergic reaction in people with pre-existing asthma or cystic fibrosis As a colonization producing a fungus ball or aspergilloma in an old healed lung cavity from previous disease such as tuberculosis or lung abscess As an invasive infection of the lung parenchyma that may spread to other...
