Effective October 1, 2004, code 477.2, Allergic rhinitis, Due to animal (cat) (dog) hair and dander, has been created to uniquely identify allergic rhinitis due to animal hair and dander (dandruff-like skin cells). Allergic rhinitis is the immune system’s response to noninfectious particles such as pollen, mold, dust, animal hair, food, chemicals, and smoke. During an allergic attack, antibodies attach to mast cells that release histamine.
