Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome
Effective October 1, 2005, a new code has been created to uniquely identify androgen insensitivity syndrome (259.5). Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS), the current preferred term for the disorder previously designated testicular feminization, is a condition that affects sexual development before birth and during puberty. It is an X-linked recessive condition resulting in a failure of normal masculinization of the external genitalia in chromosomally male individuals. These individuals have an XY chromosome genotype.
