Androgen Insensitivity Syndromes
Effective October 1, 2008, code 259.5, Androgen insensitivity syndrome, has been expanded to differentiate between partial and complete androgen insensitivity syndrome. Androgen insensitivity syndrome is the most common cause of male pseudohermaphroditism and affects sexual development before birth and during puberty. It is an X-linked recessive condition and affected individuals have an XY chromosome genotype. The lack of androgen response can be partial or complete. Complete androgen insensitivity syndrome, also referred to as Goldberg-Maxwell syndrome, results from a genetic abnormality of the androgen receptor.
