Appendicitis with perforation or rupture typically results in severe peritonitis. However, there are instances when appendicitis occurs with microperforations that can lead to generalized peritonitis. Codes K35.20, Acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis, without abscess, and K35.21, Acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis, with abscess, have been expanded to classify acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis with perforation, without perforation, and unspecified as to perforation. Three new codes have been added under each subcategory as follows:• K35.200, Acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis, without perforation or abscess • K35.201, Acute appendicitis with generalized peritonitis, with perforation, without abscess...
