Aseptic Necrosis of Jaw
Effective October 1, 2007, code 733.45, Aseptic necrosis of bone, Jaw, has been created. Aseptic necrosis of the jaw involves severe loss or destruction of the jawbone. This condition is usually associated with the use of biphosphonate medication for treatment of osteoporosis and cancer but can be related to dental pathology, tooth extraction, and trauma. Etiology may even be unknown. There is a higher occurrence in the mandible than the maxilla.
