Aspiration Pneumonia & Lung Transplant
A patient with a history of bilateral lung transplant presents with aspiration pneumonia due to emesis with a continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) mask. The Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, Section I.C.19.g.3, seem to suggest that any condition that would affect the function of the transplanted organ should be coded as a complication.
