Chronic Total Occlusion of Coronary Artery
Effective October 1, 2007, code 414.2, Chronic total occlusion of coronary artery, has been created to capture this diagnosis. A chronic total occlusion involves complete blockage of a coronary artery that has been present for an extended period of time (e.g., months or years). The chronic total occlusion develops when plaque accumulates in the artery, leading to a substantial reduction in blood flow and the development of bypass collateral blood flow.
