Complex Wound Closure Using Pericranial Flap

A 69-year-old female, who had previously undergone placement of deep brain stimulation hardware, is admitted for removal of the hardware and complex closure of the wound. After removal of the hardware, all unhealthy portions of the wound were debrided. Prior to closure of the superficial layers, a pericranial flap, consisting of myofascial layers, was raised from surrounding healthy-appearing pericranium and was transposed to an area directly under the superficial layers to provide vascularized tissue under that area of the wound. A complex closure of the wound was performed mobilizing the adjacent scalp in order to create a tension-free closure in the area of the missing scalp.
