Concussion

Effective October 1, 2003, changes have been made to the codes for concussion to indicate loss of consciousness for periods lasting 30 minutes or less. Prior to this change, the shortest timeframe for loss of consciousness for these codes was less than one hour. The code change has been made so that the time frames reported will be consistent with the surveillance definition recommended for mild traumatic brain injury developed by The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control and a group of experts established a surveillance definition for mild traumatic brain injury.
