Congenital Anomalies of Uterus, Cervix, Vagina and External Genitalia
The development of the female reproductive tract is a complex process that involves a highly orchestrated series of events including cellular differentiation, migration, fusion, and canalization. Failure of any part of the process results in congenital anomalies. Mullerian anomalies include all congenital anomalies of the uterus, cervix and vagina. They range from uterine and vaginal agenesis to duplication of the uterus and vagina. They are associated with functioning ovaries and external genitalia so uterine anomalies are often diagnosed with infertility and obstetrical complications.
