Code Q23.8, Other congenital malformations of aortic and mitral valves, has been expanded, and three new codes have been created to identify bicuspid aortic valve (BAV), and congenital mitral valve cleft leaflet. The new codes are as follows: Q23.81, Bicuspid aortic valve   Q23.82, Congenital mitral valve cleft leaflet  Q23.88, Other congenital malformations of aortic and mitral valves A normal aortic valve has three cusps, or leaflets.
