The accumulation of lipids within coronary plaques is an important process in the progression of atherosclerosis and plaque vulnerability. Diagnostic information on the presence of lipid-rich plaque will help cardiologists determine the most appropriate type of stent (drug eluting versus bare metal) treatment and provide useful information in early detection and the subsequent risk of future coronary events.
