Cyclosporiasis

Effective October 1, 2000, a new code has been created for the specific identification of cyclosporiasis. The first know human cases of cyclosporiasis were reported in 1979. In the last several years, outbreaks of cyclosporiasis have been reported in the United States and Canada. Cyclospora is spread by ingesting contaminated food or water. Eating imported raspberries has been the risk factor most strongly associated with this illness. Cyclospora infects the small intestine and usually causes watery diarrhea with frequent bowel movements.
