Effective October 1, 2006, new codes have been created for neutropenic splenomegaly (289.53) and myelofibrosis (289.83). Myelofibrosis is a rare bone marrow disease in which collagen fibrous scar tissue forms inside the marrow cavity. Myelofibrosis can be associated with many other conditions including breast cancer, prostate cancer, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphocytic leukemia, hairy cell leukemia, multiple myeloma, myeloproliferative diseases, tuberculosis, Gaucher's disease, and Paget's disease of bone. Myelofibrosis is also called idiopathic myelofibrosis, agnogenic myeloid metaplasia, chronic myelosclerosis, aleukemic megakaryocytic myelosis, and leukoerythroblastosis. 289 Other diseases of blood and blood-forming organs 289...
