Ehrlichiosis
Prior to October 1, 2000, Ehrlichiosis was coded to 082.8, Other specified tick-borne rickettsioses. Three new codes have been developed to specifically identify Ehrlichiosis.
Human ehrlichiosis can range from inapparent infection to a mild viral-like illness, to severe life threatening disease. Symptoms develop 3-16 days after being bitten by an infected tick. Common symptoms are malaise, confusion, severe headache, muscle and joint aches, nausea and vomiting, chills, cough and lack of appetite. Some patients may develop mental abnormalities, breathing difficulties, kidney problems, seizures, coma or sensitivity to light.
