What is the appropriate procedure code assignment for the Evalve® Cardiovascular Repair System also called the MitraClip® system? We have been informed that code 35.24, Other replacement of mitral valve or code 35.99, Other operations on valves of heart, should be used since the MitraClip® system allows interventional cardiologists to reconstruct the mitral valve on a beating heart without cardiopulmonary bypass. They stated that code 35.96, Percutaneous valvuloplasty, does not capture the complexity of this procedure since simple balloon dilation is used only for patients with mitral stenosis and is not applicable to patients with mitral regurgitation. ...
