Febrile Convulsions
Code 780.3 has been expanded to uniquely identify febrile convulsions. The rate of incidence is 2-5 percent of febrile children less than 5 years of age. With 40 percent of all first seizures being febrile, it is the most common seizure disorder in childhood. The age of onset is generally between 4 months to less than 5 years. Only 2 to 4 percent of children with one febrile convulsion develop epilepsy, while 12% of children with a complex febrile seizure develop epilepsy.
