Effective October 1, 2004, unique codes have been created to report hyperhidrosis. Hyperhidrosis refers to a group of clinical disorders involving excessive sweating. Sweating is a natural phenomenon necessary to control body temperature during times of exercise and exposure to warm or hot surroundings. Sweating is regulated by the symphathetic nervous system. In approximately 1% of the population, this system may work at a very high activity level, much more than needed to keep a constant temperature.
