Implantable Infusion Pumps and Vascular Access Devices
Implantable vascular access devices (VADs) and implantable infusion pumps are two distinct catheter systems. Each can be used to deliver drug therapy. There are differences between the two systems that make each unique. The main difference between the two systems is that the implantable infusion pump is a self-contained pump completely implanted into the body, whereas an implantable vascular access device is not a pump but is implanted into the body to provide access to the vascular system.
