Modifications were made to subcategory 766.2, Late infant, not “heavy-for-dates†to parallel the changes made previously to code 645, Late pregnancy. The codes were created to identify post-term and prolonged gestation infants who are at increased risk for adverse outcomes such as fetal anomalies and stillbirths. Is it necessary for an infant to have a “disorder†as stated in the 766 category title, “Disorders relating to long gestation and high birthweight†in order to report code 766.21, Post-term infant and 766.22, Prolonged gestation of infant? The physician documentation usually doesn’t link the fact that the infant is over 42 weeks gestation to a specific perinatal condition or disorder. ...
