Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome
The code assignment for neuroleptic malignant syndrome is 333.99 for other extrapyramidal disease. The appropriate code from the E930-E949 series is assigned to identify the adverse effect of a neuroleptic agent, such as E939.1, E939.2, E939.3, or E939.4 (psychotropic agents).
If the diagnosis of neuroleptic malignant syndrome is associated with the acute withdrawal of Levodopa therapy for Parkinson's (idiopathic) disease, codes 333.99,332.0, and E936.4 are assigned.
