A new code P00.82, Newborn affected by (positive) maternal group B streptococcus (GBS) colonization, has been created.Group B streptococcus (GBS), also known as Group B Strep, is a type of bacterial infection that can be found in a pregnant patient’s genital area. Typically, GBS infection does not cause problems in healthy patients before pregnancy. However, GBS can cause serious illness in the newborn, such as sepsis, pneumonia, meningitis, or seizures.
