Odontogenic Sinusitis

Subcategory J34.83 , Odontogenic sinusitis, was created to specifically differentiate odontogenic sinusitis (ODS) from other forms of sinusitis.  ODS consists of bacterial maxillary sinusitis with or without extension into the other paranasal sinuses caused by either an adjacent maxillary sinus infection or injury from a dental procedure. ODS usually presents on one side unlike most other rhinosinusitis that presents bilaterally. Many patients will require both dental treatment and endoscopic sinus surgery to remove the infected tissue or to drain the sinuses.  Five new codes were created:  J34.830 Odontogenic sinusitis, maxillary sinus J34.831 Odontogenic sinusitis, ethmoid...
