Effective October 1, 2004, two new V codes have been created related to organ transplants. One is a status code for patients awaiting organ transplants ( V49.83 ). The other code is for aftercare following organ transplant ( V58.44 ). Code V58.44 is intended for patients who receive an organ transplant and are seen on a routine basis to assess the functioning of the new organ.
