Effective October 1, 2010, a new code (35.97) has been created to identify percutaneous mitral valve repair with implant. Currently more than 4 million patients in the United States suffer from clinically significant mitral valve regurgitation (MR) and until recently, open heart surgery was the only therapeutic option. However, a new percutaneous endovascular approach to treat mitral valve regurgitation using the MitraClip® implant has been developed.
